37signals Earns Millions Each Year. Its CEO’s Model? His Cleaning Lady | Fast Company
Ottway Ducard stashed this in startups
Stashed in: Customers!, 37signals
"I won’t name names. I used to name names. But I think all you have to do is read TechCrunch. Look at what the top stories are, and they’re all about raising money, how many employees they have, and these are metrics that don’t matter. What matters is: Are you profitable? Are you building something great? Are you taking care of your people? Are you treating your customers well? In the coverage of our industry as a whole, you’ll rarely see stories about treating customers well, about people building a sustainable business. TechCrunch to me is the great place to look to see the sickness in our industry right now."

Techcrunch is officially mainstream media now. :) Replace "customers" with "constituents" and "techrunch" with "XYZ Big TV Media Co"
They give the people what they want. That being said, I know Eric eldon and Anthony ha; and if they are any representation, they are some of the classiest, finest people with whom I've ever had the pleasure of working.
Techcrunch is a business, and in order to take care of its customers it's gotta do what it's gotta do.
I still find it hard to believe people like 37 Signals software.
I find it unusable.
I agree, but I like their blog and manner of thinking. Perhaps their software is so significantly better than previous iterations; however, I think they practice what they preach. If they are a folk-hero for the designer/developer-contractor -- the little guy never to be steeped in techcrunch glory (facetious) -- than they are effectively reaching their customer time and time again.
I'm unconvinced but maybe that's because I don't like their products enough to be a customer.
