CRISPR is going to make this argument look really naive in a couple of years. The era of basically limitless, pharmaceutical-grade drugs is almost upon us... and any policy that thinks it can stem that tide by shaming doctors or deploying cops is truly deluded.

I agree.

So how do we get policy makers to embrace the era of limitless pharmaceutical-grade drugs?

Fully legal marijuana has to be part of the answer. No one grows up thinking they want to be a heroin addict, practically every single addict these days first had physical pain that was treated with prescription painkillers. Marijuana is more effective for a lot of those types of pain than opioids.

Makes sense. I wonder if the pharmaceutical companies lobby against fully legal marijuana.
