Essentially, don't put anything in Gmail, Dropbox, Evernote, etc, that you wouldn't want discovered.

It all depends, your mileage may vary.

If you plan on being Julian Assange, don't ever use any of US, UK, or EU-based services ever, for anything.

If you're a future political candidate a la Gov. Romney or Pres Obama or Gov Palin, less risk (e.g. not facing possible extradition), but career suicide possibilities. Use for non-sensitive information not including tax, personal emails and family/medical history.

If you're a business executive; I suspect there is little worry.

If you don't plan on causing anyone trouble, it most likely won't matter.

So as long as you're not a political candidate or on trial for anything, you're fine.

That has always been the refrain used to take away civil liberties... So it red flags any conversation out there. Unreasonable search and seizure... A much better one.

Everything we say can be used against us.

I guess we just gotta own it.

I guess this is bringing up old stuff but yes don't use data centers located in countries that have a treaty with the country you live in. Venezuela, Brazil, and  Colombia would be nice to have a secure server in.

Sadly most Internet services do not do that.
