1. There are only 24 public Internet companies worth over $1 billion.
2. In social only two public (Facebook and LinkedIn) and two private (Twitter and Pinterest) companies are worth more than $1 billion. Tumblr might join the club soon but frankly no one else is even close.
3. The easiest way to build a billion dollar Internet business is to facilitate TRANSACTIONS. Only one of the companies moves around actual physical goods (Amazon) but two-thirds of the billion dollar companies enable commerce: Google, eBay, Priceline, Netflix, Expedia, OpenTable, Yelp, Airbnb, Square, etc.
