Empathy fuels connection.

1. Perspective taking.

2. Staying out of judgment.

3. Recognizing emotion in other people.

4. Communicating that.

"I'm stuck. It's dark. I'm overwhelmed."

"Hey, I know what it's like down here, and you're not alone."

Empathy is a vulnerable choice to connect with something in myself that knows that feeling.

No empathic response is silver lining. Do not use the phrase "at least".

Say: "I don't even know what to say right now, I'm just glad that you told me."

Because connection is what helps.
