Gardening and the Secret of Happiness by Brain Pickings
Geege Schuman stashed this in Gardening
I liked this passage.
"[The] kind of deep attention that we pay as children is something that I cherish, that I think we all can cherish and reclaim — because attention is the doorway to gratitude, the doorway to wonder, the doorway to reciprocity. And it worries me greatly that today’s children can recognize 100 corporate logos and fewer than 10 plants. That means they’re not paying attention."
Not just today's children. Adults too.
I like the line that attention is the doorway.
How do we re-learn how to pay attention?
Well I came across a child of God, he was walking along the road
And I asked him tell where are you going, this he told me:
Well, I'm going down to Yasgur's farm, going to join in a rock and roll band.
Got to get back to the land, set my soul free.
We are stardust, we are golden, we are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
Joni Mitchell version or Crosby Stills Nash and Young version?
We are Stardust.
